Costa Rica 2016
This year we had 15 anglers join us in Costa Rica this April/May.
The first group of 8 anglers and 7 non anglers arrived and after a relaxing first day day by the pool and group meal that night, an early night the team were ready for action. For the next five days of fishing on our two stunning 42ft game-boats our all Kiwi team released 60 sailfish, 6 yellowfin and 1 mahi. Fishing was average for Costa Rica standards but anywhere in the world if your catch an average of 6 billfish a day it not to bad. For the first group we have 7 non anglers, days were taken up with zip-lining, crocodile tours, aerial tram rides, wild life and nature walks, shopping and lounging by the pool in our gated Condominium complex.
For this group we had 7 anglers and only 1 non angler. We got made an offer by the boat owners that we should go and do a two night FAD fishing trip that would take us 80-100 miles offshore. This decision to go proved to be a good one and saw us release 14 Blue marlin, 1 x striped marlin and 10 sailfish over just 1.5 days of fishing. For the rest of the trip we released another 14 sailfish, 3 blue marlin and boat load of small yellowfin. While the boys where away off shore the 3 ladies did a massive day trip up to the volcano’s to do nature tours and explore the volcano area.
Overall we were very satisfied with the quality of the boats and crews. All our anglers caught sailfish and on the second trip all anglers caught and released blue marlin. The great thing about these trips is our anglers get multiple shots at billfish so its a great environment to learn multiple ways to target billfish. For the non angling partners there is heaps of activities, tours, shopping and pool time to be had.
For 2017 Offshore Adventures will be going back to Costa Rica. Plans will be announced in July 2016 but at this stage we will be doing multi day FAD trips as well as fishing the costa off Los Suenos.
